Why International community growing concern about a change in china's trajectory?

China softens COVID stance after protests.

The ongoing Street protests across China have brought memories of the Tiananmen Square demonstrations brutally quashed in 1989.

China has witnessed more extensive protests in Hong Kong, but nothing on the mainland has come close to these.

The great protests, which began over the weekend and spread to cities across China including Shanghai and Beijing, have been characterised by acts of civil disobedience, including clashes with police.

China Dissent Monitor, run by the US government-funded Freedom House, estimated at least 27 demonstrations took place across China from Saturday to Monday

In this episode, we talk to Professor Gordon Flake, the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Perth USAsia Centre at the University of Western Australia to discuss the ongoing unrest in China.

Professor Flake is one of the world’s leading authorities on strategic developments in the Indo-Pacific. Having spent twenty-five years in the US foreign policy community focused on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia and now seven years in Australia’s Indian Ocean capital he is an expert on key strategic relationships in the broader Indo-Pacific. He has authored many scholarly and policy studies on security developments in the region, and their policy implications for the US and its regional partners.
