The Good Guys warns of a leak of customer information
A data breach at a third-party company may have given hackers access to the personal information of up to 1.5 million customers of The Good Guys' loyalty programme.
Due to a breach by a former supplier, the personal information of the store's loyalty programme members was made public. The Good Guys contacted customers to explain "the nature of the specific information involved for each affected individual."
The electronics store said in a statement that an unauthorised user had gotten into the IT systems of a former third-party supplier called Pegasus Group Australia, which is now called My Rewards.
The Good Guys said that My Rewards was once used to give "Concierge" members rewards, and that it collected names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, and, for some, dates of birth.
But it said that data from drivers licences, passports, and credit cards was not part of the breach.
The store told customers on their Updates page that the IT systems of a former supplier, Pegasus Group Australia, had been broken into.
The Good Guys have directly contacted 325,000 Concierge members who had set up a My Rewards account and another 1.5 million Concierge members whose contact information may have been affected by the breach, which is thought to have happened in August 2021.
The Good Guys no longer uses My Rewards, and all accounts that were linked to Concierge member benefits have been closed.
"The Good Guys has been told that an unauthorised user got into the IT systems of a former third-party supplier, Pegasus Group Australia Pty Ltd, which is now called My Rewards Pty Ltd," the update said.
Good Guys, on the other hand, said that their own IT systems were not involved.
The third party supplier had the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of the company's Concierge members. Concierge is the Good Guys' loyalty programme.
When some people set up an online account, the company may also keep track of their date of birth.
It is thought that the hack took place in August 2021.
"My Rewards has confirmed that no personal identity documents or financial information like driver's licence, passport, or credit card data are involved in the breach," the update said.
"The Good Guys is directly contacting Concierge members who may have been affected by the My Rewards data breach. The nature of the specific information that each affected person needs to know is explained in the message that person gets from The Good Guys.
