Sally Capp, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, has announced her resignation to pursue "new opportunities."
Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp will not run again in the October local government elections. Ms. Capp told ABC Melbourne this morning she would resign after six years as mayor "to seek new opportunities."
"The City of Melbourne was in dire need of leadership when I was elected as lord mayor in 2018," she said.
Meanwhile, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan congratulates Sally Capp on her work as Melbourne's lord mayor in an interview with ABC Melbourne:
Following Robert Doyle's resignation due to allegations of sexual harassment, the 56-year-old was chosen as mayor in a by-election held in May 2018.
November 2020 saw her re-elected to a further four-year term.
Ms. Capp stated on ABC Radio Melbourne that she was happy with her choice to resign.
