Premier Jacinta Allan has asked South Barwon Labour MP Darren Cheeseman to step down from his position as parliamentary secretary following claims of inappropriate behaviour.
Allan requested Cheeseman's resignation from her senior position due to "allegations of persistent, inappropriate behaviour in the workplace towards staff," according to a statement she released on Friday afternoon.
Today I asked for the resignation of the Member for South Barwon from his role as Parliamentary Secretary for Education as a result of allegations of persistent, inappropriate behaviour in the workplace towards staff – which he has given.
She cited Under the Ministerial Code of Conduct, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are expected to behave according to the highest standards of personal conduct in the performance of their duties and to behave in a way that upholds community expectations.

“Under the Code, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries must take all reasonable steps to maintain respectful and appropriate working relationships with their staff, staff of other Ministers and MPs, Parliamentary staff, VPS staff, and Ministerial and Parliamentary colleagues,” she said.
The wellbeing of staff and their right to a respectful workplace is not negotiable.
He will remain a member of Parliament and a member of the Parliamentary Labor Party.
After serving as Labor's federal representative for Corangamite from 2007 to 2013, Mr. Cheeseman was elected to the Victorian parliament in 2018.
