As Australia prepares to face the all-stars Argentina in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup on Sunday morning for its first knockout appearance in the tournament since 2006.
In a press conference this morning, Socceroos Coach Graham Arnold said it’s a new ball game and need to fight for it.
Arnold said that he makes sure the players are in great physical shape and great mental shape and they got a great energy to go out there and give it all.
“ We will do our best to win the game we respect Argentina for sure but first and foremost we can’t focus just solely on them I do believe the short turnaround is an advantage for us because it doesn't we don’t sit for five days wondering about thinking about the opposition or Argentina”, He said.
He added. “You know it we have that respect for them but we also have to respect ourselves and what we bring to the table and you know we know what their strengths are and we’ve got to take them away from them to have a great chance to win in this game.
The Socceroos are once again daring to dream after putting in another colossal performance to defeat Denmark 1-0 on Thursday morning (AEDT) and advance to the Round of 16.
After losing 4-1 to France in the opening game of Group D, Australia bounced back with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunisia before defeating Denmark.
The two nations first met in 1988 and have since played a further six matches, with the last encounter occurring more than 15 years ago in an international friendly in 2007 in Melbourne.
Australia emerged from Group D in second place with their highest-ever points tally (six) after 1-0 victories over Tunisia and Denmark to bounce back from an opening game 4-1 loss to France.
How to watch
The match kick-offs on Sunday morning, 4 December at 6:00am (AEDT), with the entire country set to be again captivated as they continue to throw their support behind the Green and Gold.
The clash against Argentina will be broadcast live and free on SBS and streamed live on SBS On Demand in Australia.
